Many of us think constipation is a fleeting thing that happens once in a while if we eat too much cheese. However, those who have suffered from chronic constipation know how debilitating and life interrupting it can truly be. Not only is constipation uncomfortable, painful, and stressful. It is also a potential risk factor for other dysfunctions such as urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse. If you find yourself repeatedly straining to have a bowel movement, you are putting disruptive downward pressure on your connective tissue that holds up your pelvic organs (bladder, uterus, rectum). This can lead to shifting of those organs into your vaginal canal. Men are thinking, phew I’m off the hook on this one. Not so fast! That constant straining can cause tightness and decreased coordination of the pelvic floor muscles in all humans with a pelvic floor. Hint, that’s everyone! There are many tools and tricks to protect yourself from these other symptoms, as well as to manage your bowel health and avoid having to strain all together.
Here are a few of the topics we will discuss on the zoom meeting Tuesday:
1) Pelvic Floor Muscle involvement with elimination.
2) Posture and breathing strategies.
3) Abdominal massage techniques and other tricks
4) Nutritional considerations
These tools and strategies are effective and easy to implement right away. I feel this is information we all should have and I look forward to sharing what I know with you. I have had great success treating constipation, and look forward to hearing your stories and answering your
questions.
